Frequently Asked Questions

How is Stereo Shine better than cotton swabs or DIY methods?

Unlike cotton swabs or pipe cleaners, Stereo Shine is designed specifically for RCA connectors. It cleans both the inner contact and outer ring at the same time without leaving lint or risking damage, providing a deeper and more consistent clean.

Can I use Stereo Shine with other contact cleaners besides DeoxIT?

Yes. Stereo Shine is designed to work perfectly with a variety of contact cleaners. For spray cleaners, we recommend spraying the felt away from the stereo before applying it to the jack.

Is Stereo Shine safe for vintage audio equipment?

Yes, if the felt isn't worn out, you can just add a few more drops of DeoxIT and clean away. After cleaning 50-100 jacks the felt will start to unravel and look a bit disheveled. Just swap out for a new felt!

How long does the Stereo Shine tool last?

The tool itself is reusable and will last for many years. The felt cleaning pads are replaceable, allowing you to maintain performance over time without needing to replace the entire tool.

What types of equipment can I use this on?

Stereo Shine works on any equipment with RCA or phono connectors, including receivers, amplifiers, preamps, turntables, tape decks, and even video equipment. It’s ideal for both vintage and modern audio gear.

How often should I clean my RCA jacks?

Most systems benefit from cleaning every 1–3 years depending on environment and connector type. Dusty or humid environments may require more frequent cleaning, while protected, plated connectors can go longer between maintenance.

Will cleaning RCA jacks really improve sound quality?

Yes. Dirty or oxidized RCA connectors can cause signal loss, static, and channel imbalance. Cleaning them restores conductivity, which often results in clearer audio, stronger signal, and more reliable performance—especially in vintage equipment.
